A refrigerant is a fluid/gas/liquid used in Refrigerators and Air Conditioning systems.

Without refrigerant, it is impossible to use Air Conditioners, Refrigerators, or any other freezing technology.

The refrigerant is contained in the coils of the AC. The refrigerant is used to absorb heat in the room and expel it out into the air.

Refrigerant undergoes changes in its state from liquid to gas as it absorbs heat. The compressor becomes liquid again when it compresses.

Chlorofluorocarbons, (CFCs)

CFCs: The Making of CFCs R12 CFCs were banned in 1994. They are a major cause of greenhouse gas effects and the depletion of the ozone layer.

Hydrochlorofluorocarbons, (HCFCs)

R-22 is the most commonly used refrigerant in air conditioners. CFCs were eventually replaced by Hydrochlorofluorocarbons in the 1990s. R-22 Is the refrigerant it is found in over half of Indian Air Conditioners (As of now).

R-22 is only slightly better than CFCs. However, it is also environment-wide danger also has the potential to deplete ozone. Within 4-5 years, R22 and other HCFCs will be phased out.

Take a look at the outside component of an AC or Refrigerator before you buy it. Don’t buy an AC or Refrigerator if R-22 is listed on it. R22 is an old and dangerous refrigerant.

 Hydrofluorocarbons, (HFCs) 

HFCs (R-410A and R-32. They are more effective than HCFCs, and they do not reduce the ozone layer. They also have the potential to cause global warming.

Please be aware that32 is superior toR-410A Concerning Global warming. Although HFCs such as R-32 and R-410A may not be environment-friendly, they are still better than R-22.

The Indian government is also planning to phase out Hydrofluorocarbons over the next few years.

 Hydrocarbons (HC) 

The following are the current conditions: Most environment-friendly there are many refrigerants that can be used in India for Air Conditioners.

R-290(Propane). R-600A(Isobutane). R-290 has a global warming potential of 3 and R-600A has the potential to cause global warming of 3. Both have no impact on the ozone layer.

R-290A and R-600A are both energy-efficient and the most environmentally friendly refrigerants. Hydrofluorocarbons and Hydrocarbons are extremely flammable.

R-600A is used by most of India’s top refrigerators. There have been no reported accidents. Most users now want AC’s and Inverter Air Conditioners that have minimal impact on the environment.

R-290A and R-600A, are new refrigerants that are environmentally friendly and efficient.

Daikin is a leading AC manufacturer and uses R32 refrigerant, which has a GWP of 675. the three times less GWP is R32 than R410A(2088). R32 is also less energy-efficient than R410A.

R32 refrigerants are now being used by other companies such as Hitachi, Panasonic and Sharp.

Godrej NXW AC series use R290, the greenest refrigerant with the least impact on the environment. Godrej sold more than 1 lakh R290 units in India.

People who lived through the 1980s and 1990s will confirm that the climate was much more stable than it is today. The climate is now unpredictable with summers becoming warmer than they were in the 1980s. The ocean water levels are also rising.

All these changes can be attributed to one factor: ‘Global warming.

Manufacturers will be motivated to switch to these refrigerants instead of the CFCs and HCFCs. It will be beneficial for the entire environment.

R-290A and R-600A will be the future of refrigerants. You should choose an Air Conditioner that is both energy-efficient and eco-friendly if you’re looking to purchase one.
